'Sexual' executions cause debate20 Aug. 2006
Anna Thorne has become somewhat of a hero for the supporters of FemEx, since she was the first psychologist to execute a woman sentenced by this law. Since the execution of Lisa Pannell, Anna Thorne has put 42 other women to death, but her methods have given raise to much debate within the feminist communities and beyond. Some critics say that she is too ‘sexual’ in the way that she conducts the executions. Here at DRD we feel that this is an important debate, and you, dear reader, should have the opportunity to voice your opinion. But before we go to the open debate, let us see what have given raise to the debate and hear the main contesting views.
Below is shown pictures from the execution of Gina Jefferson, who was put to death at 9:30 this morning. It is the most recent execution carried out by Anna Thorne, and is typical for all of the executions carried out by her.

Gina and Anna have both undressed, and Anna has placed the electrodes on Gina’s body. Gina is watching as Anna calibrates the machine that will soon send a deadly current through Gina’s young body. Anna is telling Gina about what she is doing in a slow and calm voice. Gina appears relatively composed.

Anna tells Gina that the machine is ready. It is time to say the final prayers. Gina starts crying and begging, but Anna lets the poor girl know that it will not be very painful, and it will be over in less than a minute. While talking, Anna strokes Gina’s hair, shoulders and back, which calms her down a bit.

Anna turns on the machine. The current runs through Gina’s young body. Gina screams in fear and pain as she feels her heart stop. This initial shock is too great for Anna to alleviate, but as soon as Gina’s first screams have died out, Anna resumes her slow and calm talk, telling Gina that she is being a brave girl.

Anna continues talking as Gina’s life slowly fades. She has an arm around the poor, dying girl, she is stroking her hair and neck and she presses her own body against Gina’s. Her voice becomes ever softer, and it is little more than a whisper when the final death spasms ripple through Gina’s body.
“I have seen some of Anna Thorne’s executions, and they are absolutely horrible. It’s an abomination that she is allowed to turn an execution into a sexual act, and it’s an abomination that she is allowed to manipulate these poor women in such a way.” Thunders Ursula Gertrude, spokeswoman of the FAA and ardent opponent of FemEx. “She is simply exploiting the women’s vulnerable situation for her own gratification. It is sick, it is perverted, it is horrible and it is just plain wrong. This sort of behaviour has got to be stopped. The women who is facing execution is in a situation of total submission, she is distraught by sorrow and fear. She cannot be expected to relate logically to the treatment she is given, so she cannot possibly be considered to be able to consent. This is rape, plain and simple. I have sent a complaint to the police, to Congress and to the Supreme Court. I will demand a full investigation. I will demand that anyone carrying out these executions in an unethical manner is held accountable by law.”
“Some people are offended by the way I conduct my executions, simply because they don’t understand the psychology involved. An execution is an extremely stressful experience for the victim, and I do whatever I can to reduce that stress. My critics don’t understand the intense emotional issues that are involved, because it’s so far away from their everyday lives, it’s so different that they cannot really relate.” Anna Thorne explains. “You cannot judge executions by your everyday standards. What might be seen as sexual or immoral might be the best possible solution for the girl involved.”
“Before we attach the electrodes, the girl has to undress. I undress with her, because it creates the feeling in her that we are in this together. If she was the only one who had to undress, she would feel exposed and vulnerable. When she sees me undress as well, she doesn’t feel her own nudity to be as embarrassing as if she was the only naked person in the room.” Anna Thorne replies to the criticism. “And when the girl is dying, I always touch them. The physical intimacy gives them a feeling that they are not alone with their suffering. We know that the touch of naked flesh is very soothing to most people. I don’t do it for my own sake, I do it for one reason and one reason only: To alleviate the suffering of the girl being executed.”
Anna Thorne gets support from Mona Veracio, the doctor who devised the execution methods that are used under FemEx.
“I have done clinical tests during some of Anna Thorne’s executions, and I must say that I find the results quite amazing. I have measured the pulse, pupil dilation, body temperature, perspiration and the level of adrenaline in the victim’s blood during the entire execution process. This gives an objective measure of the stress that the girls is experiencing.” Mona Veracio explains. “And it is clear to me that Anna Thorne is by far the by for the best executioner that I have ever met. The stress levels in the girls that she executes are far below the average level. There is no doubt that this low level is caused by her nudity and her physical and emotional intimacy with the victim. Actually, my team of researchers is working on a review of the execution procedures to see how we can make the best use of this discovery to further decrease the stress of executions.”
